Voting

Does your electoral precinct give out stickers that indicate that you voted when you vote? If so, what do you do with this sticker? Do you wear it? Why do you wear it? What does the sticker that is handed out at your voting precinct look like? If not a sticker, is anything else given to you or done to you to show that you have voted?

[question posted by Transdisc]responses and comments:

yes they mark a black non removable ink mark on the back of the thumb here so that no one can cheat and do vote more than once, and also here they also give badges of the party too which we can attach to our pocket. thanks for the discussion i think you have voted.. who have you voted for?? thanks for the discussion gohar [goharayub]
hey thanks for the giving me best response gohar [goharayub]

hope my sticker is safe for me...lol http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=simson+vote&hl=en&emb=0&aq=-1&oq=#hl=en&emb=0&aq=-1&oq=&q=simpson%20vote [polachicago]
I hope it's safe too, pola! Thanks for the video. I had heard about it. :) [Transdisc]

I got a sticker that said "I voted". Usually I stick them in my purse but today I stuck it on my shirt. It fell off... [dawnald]
right, that's my story and I"m sticking to it! [dawnald]

I have my "I am a Georgia Voter" sticker on my tee-shirt it also has a picture of a Georgia Peach on it. [whiteheather39]

White square sticker with I voted at the top and an American Flag at the bottom. [Chevee]
A square sticker? Hmm. Very In ter est ing. [Transdisc]

I am not voting until tonight at 6:30, which means all the stickers might be gone. But, my co-workers said the sticker just says, "I voted today". I might stick it on my forehead. Where did you stick your sticker? Did it have a GA Peach on it, too, like Whiteheather's? Ours is boring. [itsmefaith]
How sad for you! [Transdisc]

Some businesses in Kansas City are giving out freebies. Free beer if you vote, Starbucks, donuts, and yes, free body piercings. blink We do have the stickers too. I don't get one. I voted through the mail early. Maybe they'll send me one. lol [irishidid]
Oh, I certainly hope that they'll send you a sticker, irishidid, as well as some Starbucks coupons or something. [Transdisc]

Hello Trans, I've read at least one other discussion here on these stickers that say you voted... This is all very interesting to me as nothing is given out here once you have voted. You just hand in your card which is sent to you in the mail and they look you up on the list and give you a ballot. You go in and mark it and come out and put it in the box and then you are done...No stickers or proof that you have voted! I wonder why your country does that? The only reason I can think of is that if you actually wear the sticker then others will see it and hopefully get out there and make the vote...Just a thought! I do wish your country all the best in this election as it has been a long campaign! Have a wonderful day! ~Heavens~ [heavenschild]
lol I have no idea if we get blood stickers Trans as I have never given...I'd like to though... I like the idea about the doctor giving stickers though and perhaps the flu shot clinics as well...I mean why not! I've been a good little girl haven't I? My boy gets a sticker on his shirt if he's good at school so really, where's mine? ~Heavens~ [heavenschild]

Hi Transdisc, happy We get absolutely nothing in 'my neck of the woods.' I won't go into the details, as to how our whole process works, as it's been explained very well by heavens here. Besides, I have a feeling that you're now pretty much an expert on the way things work, here in the Great White North. wink I think it'd be a good practice for 'us' to adopt here. Surely we could come up with something that could be given, in recognition of something so vital. As it is, there are already so many here that just can't be bothered getting out to vote. They're either totally disenchanted with the whole procedure, so think it's an exercise in futility, or they just can't be bothered. Take care. [someonesmom]
We really do make it easy, don't we. lol I'm not familiar with voting by phone here, but the other two methods you've mentioned are available. 'We' can even phone the political party of our choice, and they have volunteers to give us a ride to the polls, if needed. Of course, we're supposed to be voting for the candidate they're endorsing. whistle [someonesmom]

Our stickers actually look like your picture. My son is wearing mine because he has been telling us for months now that he was voting. I let him touch the final step so he felt like he voted as well lol [ZephyrSun]
Aaaw, that was nice of you and I bet that he's happy. [Transdisc]

Yep, I've got a sticker and I'm wearing it all day, lol. I've already been to the grocery store since voting. It is circular and says I voted at the top, with an American flag beneath it, followed at the bottom by in Cleveland County, OK. I live in Norman, but Cleveland is my county. It's a different sticker than I got four years ago in the last election voting process. Oh, and the sticker has a blue background. [AmbiePam]
That's great!! I bet that you were excited. happy [Transdisc]

i don't know. i'm a baaaaaaad girl, i don't vote. [ANTIQUELADY]
Yeah, I know just what you mean. [Transdisc]

They give you a orange statin I just voted and sometimes I wear it other time I just throw it away because you get the same one all the time I am proud to vote but what other use is the sticker for. [kylanie]
Well, you could stick the sticker to your face and use it like a cheap Biore' strip. [Transdisc]

I hate voting Trans. I have never received a sticker to indicate who I have voted for, And if I ever did I would not put it on my car. I really hate the way 100 people rush at us to hand us leaflets on how to vote. Sheez if I dont know how to vote now I never will. [Goodie123]
I didn't get a sticker when I voted tonight, Goodie. I was rather disappointed. [itsmefaith]

My husband and I got red, white & blue stickers that said I Voted earlier today but our grandson took both of them as soon as he saw us. Right now he has one on his chest and one on his sock. [spalladino]
One on his sock? Heehee! [Transdisc]

Our sticker says I voted in white and is on a red background. I stuck it on my sons belly... of his shirt. [glords]
Our children sure do love getting their hands on those stickers, don't they, glords? [Transdisc]

they give out a little oval sticker with a flag and the words "I voted." They are about an inch long and half inch wide. [ElicBxn]
Yeah, sorry, it is an American flag. [ElicBxn]

I did not get a sticker today because I voted by absentee ballot. However, when I voted in 2004 I got a sticker that said, "I Voted" with an American flag on it. I wore it on my shirt and then later stuck it to my tv. It is still stuck to my tv in the upper right hand corner next to the Zenith logo. [nerdytina]
Because you are that proud or because it won't come off?? [itsmefaith]

I think you are a Geogian, Tranny, so you know ours is a peach. I voted a month ago in Winder. I have my peach stuck to the side of my TV set in my room. It looks pretty next to the black background of my TV. I wanted to keep it this year because this is such an important election. [OreoCookie3]
You are quite correct, Oreo! I bet that we have the nicest voter sticker in the country! [Transdisc]

sadI didnt get a sticker. happybut I did get to vote and that is what counts. [ladybug565]
When you guys voted, were you given a piece of paper with a serial number on it so you could track your vote to make sure it was counted? I got one and thought it was a really great idea! I hope everywhere does it. [itsmefaith]

here, after you vote your thumb/pointing finger will be painted with an ink that would be remove after several days. [gladysjanem]
I like that idea, gladysjanem. [Transdisc]

Yes I got three stickers, I put one on my purse, one on my shirt, and saving the other one...I just wanted to show the world that I voted!!! [passivepam]
But you didn't vote three times did you, passivepam? [Transdisc]

I think they do give them out. I've seen lots of people with them on their shirt. I actually did the absentee voting by mail so I didn't get a sticker. It is easier for me to do it by mail than to go wait in the long lines with a 2 year old. [sweetgirl_k1]
I think that it would be easier for most of us to vote by mail, sweetgirl_k1! :) [Transdisc]

Yes they do give out a sticker. It is oval, has a flag on it and says, "I voted." I do wear mine because I am proud to let everyone know that I exercised my right and I voted, and I am proud to have done so. I am proud that I made my contribution to the country that I live in and proud that I did not sit back without attempting to make things as I wish they were. You can't complain if you don't vote. [thedaddym]

At first, if you gave the barista a vote sticker, you could have a free Starbucks coffee. It seems as if all their stores were so crowded with voters that they just gave everyone who came in a cup of coffee and asked them to hurry if they could, to keep the crowd down. [cobrateacher]

yeah we have stickers.. which i think is a waste of money in my opinion.. [moonlitmagikchild]

Here is a photo of my sticker. I have it on my jacket still I will be taking it off today. I just have not done it yet. [teapotmommommerced]
