Take A Bet

When I saw the headline this morning (Obama gets Nobel Peace Prize), I said to myself, they are going to go crazy about this over on the lot. And so far I have seen two discussions on the topic, didn't read them yet, but one was saying she didn't think he deserved it and the other was saying that it had been cheapened yet again. I foresee an exciting Obama bashing day here on the lot. Not that I think he has done enough to warrant the award, but would it really have mattered, I wonder? Anyway, how many discussions do you think we're going to see on this topic today before things die down? Do I get points for precognition or was it obvious that there were going to be lots of discussions about it? Am I allowed to be silly in the politics interest or do I need to put my flak jacket on? Where is that blue rabbit?

[question posted by dawnald]responses and comments:

It's days like this that make MyLot fun! ;~D [ParaTed2k]
Fun in a ducking missiles sort of way? :-) [dawnald]

Ok, I just got here, too. I'm guessing there will be at least 7 today...not counting yours. And, yes, you get points for precognition. I hope you don't need your flack jacket but the rabbit probably has it anyway. [spalladino]
some folks would call it cheating, but since I didn't set any rules, what the heck! [dawnald]

Hello my friend happy I responded to one because that was the first I heard of it, I am responding here because its you, but thats it for me, honestly could care less, I don't think he did anything to warrant this honor but not about get into a big thing about something that I had no control over. Thanks my friend. [kitty42]
I predict there will be 10 or more discussions, both pro and con, about Obama's Peace Prize win. He is not my President, and I am rather confused at what 'peace' Obama has managed to secure. I would think that the winner of this award should have logged some hours, with success, at bringing about calmer relations between countries at war. I do not see any evidence of this when I read the news headlines. [ptty55]

Well I dont know how many posts this award will be dicussed in, but I have already discussed it elsewhere and I wont be doing so again. I think its ok to be silly in the politics section, and why not, politicians are silly at times. [vonmac]
Very very silly ! Meaningless and not consistent. They keep modifying their promises as well rasp It's the same scenario my country, no one seems to live up to what they said before getting the votes, they are just so greedy yawn [pupupd]

Can I ask if any one knows what exactly he has done to deserve this? I am in the belief someone got paid off to make this man with a failing rep look good again. [OpinionatedLady]
I'm pretty sure they would not... [dawnald]

Hi Dawn, will probably get suspended from MyLot for repeating comments. On one other thread (one of Judith's) I wrote the following: "PS looking forward to the proverbial frothing at the mouth angry from some posters over Obama's Nobel Prize! I shall not be discussing its merits though!". That should actually read "merits or otherwise". That I am correcting the error should save me from suspension, maybe? happy The proverbial frothing at the mouth we are definitely getting though. Flak jacket may not be required, but an umbrella or a face mask may be useful.cry Tony [astonysh]
Don't worry you have changed your comment by adding the first statement lol [pupupd]

You can be silly and I can be silly. However, the USA view their President the fact is that the rest of he world recognise something in him - that he really is working for peace in the world. I do not think that the USA citizens realise how the world views this man. How they want him to succeed at world peace. Out side of the USA he is considered a great world leader and the world recognises that he cannot achieve that much in a few years. But they see his potential and WANT him to succeed. Our bundle of brightness - the one that is our leader - guess what he did? Stood up in Parliament and announced that "We are too Blessed to be Stressed". angry Our country would love to swap him for Mr. Obama any day. [cynthiann]
As long as you are nice to all my friends, you can have as many brownies as you like! [dawnald]

One he did not deserve. But that the end of the day we really can't do anything about it. We don't control who gets it. But all I can say is somebody got robbed....like the people who were in the running against him. But on to your point....yep there are going to be a lot discussions on this on mylot. It is going to be a free for all. And none of it on Obama's side. Because even the dems know he did not do anything to deserve it so it is really hard if not impossible for them to take up for him. [lilwonders456]
Great!! Make me the president of most powerful country in the world and Give me The Nobel Prize because even I have the POTENTIAL to achieve world peace! What a Joke rasp [pupupd]

If they can give it to Kissinger after his involvement in the illegal carpet bombing of Cambodia (causing 500,000+ deaths) yet not to Ghandi, despite his being nominated for it 5 times; then what value has it as a 'peace' prize anyway? [EnemyofEmpire]
@ pupupd When Kissinger was Nixon's national security adviser in 1969 during the Vietnam war, he was complicit in a 14 month campaign of carpet bombing Cambodia. At that time Cambodia was neutral which made the bombing campaign illegal. The US dropped 540,000 tons of bombs killing an estimated 500,000 civilians. Nixon and Kissinger bypassed congress on this and kept it secret for months, insisting that they were bombing legitimate vietcong targets. The man is a war criminal, yet he received the Nobel peace prize in 1973 for the 1973 Paris Agreement intended to bring about a ceasefire in the Vietnam war and a withdrawal of the American forces. The prize was awarded jointly to Kissinger and Le Duc Tho of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. It is perhaps interesting to note that Le Duc Tho is, to my knowledge, still the only person awarded the Nobel peace prize, ever to refuse it. Maybe he had more honesty and integrity than Kissinger. @ Dawn Yep, that's about the only value it has. [EnemyofEmpire]

I just read the news...and I am truly confused. I thought it took alot to win that prize not just projecting speeches that someone else has basically written for you....anyway......I won't even project if you should be dressed to kill....like in a flak jacket.....LoL.....I'll give you kudos for a heads up on how many discussions that will result from this..... [jillhill]
Yes it indeed takes a lot to win such high valued honor, I don't know whats up with European Honor! confused Giving away extra trophies I suppose glare [pupupd]

There are plenty of discussions on it already! Brownie points to you! I don't understand, maybe cos i'm british, but why is everyone so down on him? He seems pretty good to me and better than al lot of the others. Plus just standing up and being the first was a risky, challenging move and it did unite a lot of people. I'm not going to get any further involved as i don't know a lot about it! I'm only saying that here cos its not a "serious" politics discussion and i hope i'm not going to get bombarded by anti-obamites, i have no protection here! [LittleMrsSunshine]
OH My God! I did not know he is muslim shocked shocked I just thought he is from some South African country! No doubt he is supplying funds to our enemy country which is full of people of his religion rasp [pupupd]

heck, HE said he didn't think he'd done anything to deserve it - I mean, as Saturday Night Live said - what has he done? - NOTHING... [ElicBxn]
see, I only quoted LIBERAL sources here, but they totally agree with me.... [ElicBxn]

I saw this last night and thought it must be a joke. I had the same thoughts as you, thinking the Lot would be overtaken with discussions about whether or not he deserves it. It is a pity your discussion has turned into a "for/against" when it wasn't your intention, but it is to be expected. You might need your flak jacket - and indeed anyone who responds. Being an Aussie, I don't like to comment on the politics of another nation, and I'm not doing so, but forgive me for querying my idea of the Nobel Prize. Isn't it for ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENT and not for a POTENTIAL achievement? I am not aware of any ACTUAL achievement in this area. Could someone enlighten me? [cloudwatcher]
I guess I could just go back to the museum and "borrow" Peggy Fleming's... [dawnald]

;hands Dawn some ultralightweight armor; [Irishfrndly65]
It's just defensive armor! [dawnald]

Hi dawnald, I have not come across any discussion about that but I have heard it on the news, maybe people are getting fed up of it all to put it up on discussion, though I may wrong. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
I saw at least four of them earlier today... [dawnald]

hi dawnald is it safe for me who does not dislike obama to even breathe on this screen let alone write here, will they throw rotten eggs or just send an atomic bomb at me, or just write mean nasty things? I do not often well almost never answer political discussions as I seem to be in the minority here with my views and I hate being dissed and even hated. I am not wearing my suit of armour right now either. lol lol lol.sadthumbdownglare [Hatley]
Two brownies to Annie. Don't worry Hatley, anybody comes around attacking you in MY discussion will get put in the naughty corner and sent to bed with no brownies! [dawnald]

yeah I thought there would be some discussions about him receiving it he didn't even think he should receive it so if people feel he doesn't deserve it well that's exactly what he feels anyway but to each their own I suppose the institution is the one that decides it we can all agree or disagree it won't matter he received it [LittleMel]
Just teasing, would never happen. lol [dawnald]

I have said a lot of things against Obama and his receiving The Nobel Peace Prize, I hope USA government does not turn against me and bans my my-lot account and refuses to pay me my share! [pupupd]
If the US government cared about such things, you'd be in good company. But I don't think so... [dawnald]

Well it is my opinion that he does not deserve the honor and certainly didn't earn it. I am in the UK and there was an article in our morning paper today and it showed disgust for him being honoured. It also said that he will get £900,000 as well - thats almost 1 1/2 million dollars. He said he would give it to charity. Wonder if he will give it to his crooked favourite charity ACORN. He should give to the US Treasury to help pay for his ridiculous Stimulus. [us2owls]
I hope he gives it to something that can do some real good... [dawnald]

I actually didn't know anything about it until I saw about 5 discussion topics talking about it and I thought it was another joke somebody started. But then I flipped over to the news and there he was.. I responded to one of them and didn't feel the need to respond to the others. By they way I captured the blue rabbit and cooked him for dinner last night!whistle mmmmm... rabit stew is soooooooo delicious!drool Oh and you're allowed to be silly anytime... I think it would be odd if you weren't sillyrasp [jellymonty]
I saw the newspaper article first then all the discussions. Please don't cook my friend the blue rabbit, the place wouldn't be the same without her. Surely you can find a rabbit who doesn't have a sense of humor? [dawnald]

i don't love to talk about politics.for the headline,i want to say politics is too complicated, so common person cant understand it. go to listen to music or see a film, that's fun? [450052]
It is complicated. [dawnald]

To bad myLot's glitch in posting non repliable discussions messed up your bet. Still some managed to sneak theirs in before the glitch took over. I've had 'Obama bashing' withdrawal symptoms rolleyes all night last night and now this morning too! So much to say and very little opportunity to say it......cry!!! [debrakcarey]

It seems in politics I just read, because I do not understand about what they were doing there. If I discuss there, the air will become increasingly hot and needed double anti-bullet. lollolYou're not silly but sometimes. Where I put my anti-bullet, oh there is it. [May2k8]
That's great, then I won't need my flak jacked! :-) [dawnald]

You definitely called it! All I've been seeing this weekend are MyLot folk pretty much COMPLAINING that Obama got the award - or asking people what THEY think with an angry undertone (for example, I loved this one: "Do you think Obama deserved a nobel peace prize?" and then the next sentence would be - "Do you think this prize has lost all meaning?"). It seems like EVERYONE has a negative opinion on this event; and they intend on showing around here at myLot. I don't really have a strong opinion either way, and so I tend to avoid these discussions where the starter CLEARLY has an AGENDA - and clearly is willing to argue to get his or her point across. I steer away from it. Anyway, I've already seen close to 5 or 6, and I haven't really been active here lately due to all the problems MyLot's been having. But I imagine more and more are going to spring up, because apparently it has upset many people here. [maezee]
Maybe the problem with myLot is Homeland Security. lol [dawnald]

LOL i had heard about that, but i hadn't heard why he was awarded it. confusing.they didn't give very much information. [scarlet_woman]
very, very little... [dawnald]
