People Are Buying Guns What Is The Reason

Okay I live in Canada and we always had gun control,*(the crooks use knives and clubs by the way) but lately it has become stricter and at first, the people who had gun collections and when someone stole the guns, the rest of their collection was confiscated and no one did anything about the gun traffic within the criminal element until much latter. But this is about the sale of gins in the state before the gun control president takes office. So is this because people are wary that the criminals will take advantage of this law and will go and invade homes more then they had because they expect no resistance, in other words the homeowner is being prepared or is it that the people expect that the government will turn into a dictatorship and plan to make America a democracy? I am more inclined to think that once the crooks learn that owning hand guns are illegal, they will be bolder and that the homeowners are arming themselves for when that is happening.

Its more than gun control. I'm going to say what alot of people are thinking, but too afraid to say. These are not my opinions, just things that I have heard from people. The reason people are loading up on guns is fear. Some people think some great race war is coming. Now a black man is in charge, and their going to turn the tables on white people, and the next civil war is coming to america. Then there are the people who think that Obama is the antichrist. Preparing for a holy war. Others think that he along with a democrat controlled government will bring communism to the u.s. Fear is good for business. Obama just might save the economy after all. Just a person of his character will throw people into a panic, so that they start buying up weapons, and survival items. [redhotpogo]
Yeah ,that's what i'm saying though. Done half @ssed you get those problems. Gun control done correctly you don't have criminals getting guns. [redhotpogo]

Many are afraid that Obama will bring strict gun control and they won't be able to purchase guns in the future, so they're buying them now. Unfortunately, from what I've heard, he may make is so that they can't buy ammunition either, so many are stocking up on that too. [newtondak]
The last Liberal government in Canada passed a law saying that we should register our guns, rifles, shotguns, etc. Now my husband got a shotgun from his father, but he made it inoperable and was glad to do so. (Okay if the bad guys invade our house and try to kill us, he will have to pay for their blood stains when I use the kitchen knife and the ax downstairs to defend ourselves.) We do not have to worry about home invasions as the bad guys are more interested in stealing cars here. But what if the police do not get there in time? And what if we are in the country, and there is a grizzly bear after us? I mean it is dangerous not to have a gun especially in the country. and I can imagine there are isolated places in the States as well. [suspenseful]

I do think that people are getting guns before you can't get them any more, or as easily. Tho, I drove past a gun show last weekend and there were fewer people there than have been since they started holding it near my house. [ElicBxn]
I, too, worry more about the left. And that is why I worry about Obama.

Fact check time. This has been a trend for the last 4 years. There may have been a very tiny uptick since the election, but it is marginal. Several reasons include: the economy, more people are hunting to supliment food stocks, the supreme court ruling striking down outright hand gun bans, and yes, fear. Fear of riots as the economy slides down hill and the desire to defend one's home in such a case. And yes, fear of a comming war. But not a race war as one poster said in here, it runs far deeper, more a war of ideology and the patriot movement encumpases all races, black, white red, asian, the whole gammut.. There has been a growing trend lately in the stifling of civil liberties and constitutional blasphemy by this administration and Obama's doesn't seemn to be any relief. People are waking up to the fact the the second amendment is far more than just the right to own a gun, but the right of the citizen to defend their state and the constitution against an opressive government. While we are not in an outright, opressive dictatorship and most people in their day to day lives don't even notice the subtle changes, these thimgs are slowly happening and our country is slowly changing, slowly moving away from what we were and should be. People who are more conciencious of this are becomming more and more out raged, so they prepeare. [xfahctor]
X--exactly right. Most Americans are like the proverbial frog, slowly boiling to death, not realizing the water's heat is slowly increasing.... Maggiepie [Maggiepie]

I think alot of people are buying guns before Obama passes the new law about them. I think some people are buying them also for protection for one reason or another. [stephcjh]

I'm inclined to agree, based on history. That's exactly what happened when Australia disarmed ITS citizens, so now folks there are being robbed by the thieves--even when they're HOME! Hide your guns, if you have any. There are MANY in D.C. now who've been ITCHING to negate the 2nd Amendment, & now, they outnumber those who support the Constitution. Just so ya KNOW.... Maggiepie [Maggiepie]
fortunately enough we at least have the second amendment. Australia had no such protections. And the recent supreme court ruling makes it even harder to do what happened in Australia and Britton. Fortunately as well, unless you buy a hand gun in most states here, no one even knows you bought or own a gun so, for now at least, there is no data base of owners to go door to door with. [xfahctor]

I haven't noticed any legitimate reports of increased gun or ammunition sales here in Florida and have to agree with another discussion which indicated that this fear is being promoted by those who have the most to gain...the gun dealers. I realize that you're not familiar with the United States but we're not the dangerous place you must be imagining. While there are big cities which have a higher crime rate, the majority of the U.S. is made up of small and mid-sized towns that are actually quite nice. I don't know the percentage of Americans who own guns but we're not a heavily armed nation living in fear. [spalladino]

It is about fear. People are worried that Obama or the democratic congress will push through tougher guns laws so they are going to stock up now. Same thing happened when Bill Clinton got elected. People were scared he would make it harder to get one so they when out and got one now before the law got changed. Remeber when they did the assault rifles ban? Well right before it went through a lot and I mean a lot of people rushed out to buy them because they knew in a few months they would not be able to buy them. I have seen posts about it being a "racial" thing. But its not. Its a democrat thing. Most democrats in office are for tougher fire arm laws. So whenever ones gets into the white house or they take control of congress and senate by a large margin this happens. It is just really huge this time because we have a democrat going in the white house, a democrat controlled house and senate coming with him. So a lot thing will get rubber stamped. Including gun laws. I am not saying they will do it. But there is a great chance of tougher guns laws passing with the democrat monopoly that will happen next year than normal. So that is why you are seeing the rush now. [lilwonders456]

I think that people want to feel safe in their own home. The comments that have been made about a disarming of the american people may come about has put a lot of people on edge. I can say that disarming america is going to be impossible. People aren't going to let the government control them and keep them from protecting their homes. We have a few guns in our home, which are under lock and key, but it makes me feel safer knowing that if their was an intruder in our home I could defend myself. People who already have guns, aren't just going to hand over their guns to the government. I honestly don't think that it will ever go through, they would have to change the constitution. We have the right to bare arms, and I think that we deserve that right. Their are to many crazys and criminals out their. It will be a cold day that we are disarmed. [tlb0822]

We as a nation do not feel safe. Look around...things are strange, uncomfortable, wrong, different, out of control.....need more said? [jordan04n]

I think a lot of Americans think the democrats will change the gun laws making it more difficult to buy them. This is why many Republicans are rushing in and buying firearms now. Anyway, that's what I think. [mipen2006]

Well, I doubt they would all be unprotected some have animals, alarms, baseball bats, stun guns, and a few multiple of things to use on people who invade their homes. I am sure that their will still be what they call black market for guns and they will be able to purchase them easily as they do now. We have Stockyards,Flea Markets full of gun exchanges without permits and such. It would be more dangerous for someone on the streets that is walking then at home. [mtdewgurl74]

You have gotten a mixture of answers,I can only speak for myself, over this pass week end I bought a brand new 9MM semi automatic Rugger. Mr Obama seems to may not have the respect many wishes he did have for the second amendment,I live in a population less then 1,200 the gun shop owner said he is selling 15-20 guns a week. Living in a rural town with no police service and the nearest one hour away most people in my town have a hand gun and a rife in their home,Seems people where I live are buy an extra gun being it is their American right to bare arms. I think many people have thought they should have a gun and choose to buy one just in case Mr Obama and people with his mind set try to mess with the second amendment. I can't say if it has so much to do with fear people living in big crowd cities for many fear is part of their life's. Criminals have and will always have fire arms, seems rather silly the bad guy's have guns but parents can not protect their children or family, seems rather crazy. Personally I think in the United States any one mess with the right to bare arms will bring a very big uprising in the people. [kennyrose]

I think this is pretty much a myth or at the very least greatly exaggerated just like your description of Obama as "the gun control President". The gun dealers are understandably trying to scare people into running out to buy every gun they can get their hands on just to line their own pockets. Many sportsman and gun owners' groups supported Obama because they pay attention to the facts instead of the fear-mongering. Annie [anniepa]

I live in the UK and it's happening here too, even teenagers are obtaining guns and yesterday on the news I heard that a teenager was shot dead in a town that previously hadn't had teenage shootings ever! It's getting worse and it's scarey and disturbing. [aslanlight]

I think that if a law is enacting to prohibit or inhibit people from having guns, there will be many more gun deaths because of criminals having guns. There is a town somewhere in the US, I forget where, where the law states that every head of household must own a gun--crime there is 0!! ZERO!! But our media doesn't report on such stories because they would prove that gun ownership by responsible adults can actually deter crime and that would go against their backers. I'm taking my rifle in to get fixed this weekend and just might buy a handgun. Maybe. Either way, I'll be stocking up on ammunition because I hear that's where Obama will strike first, at the price of ammunition. [dragon54u]

I havent read this but it would sem to me that they are taking advantage of our right to bare arms. So many prez has tried to take our guns and it hasnt worked for most . Do you think my son that just retired out of the service will give up his own owned ones NOPE! ANd I wont either. [Lakota12]

Well as far as Americans, I think Obama favors disarming the American people, so it's likely people are buying more guns NOW while they still can. In fact, we might do the same because I would rather do it now while it is still easier vs doing it later after more red tape has been instituted. I honestly don't understand how we have even gotten to this point as a human race. We have overadministrated ourselves practically to death, it is so hard to just do anything without going through 500 people and half the time one of them drops the ball or things are ruled 'not in your favor'. I would like a return to when things were simple and if you wanted to do something like buy a gun or drive a car or buy a house or get married or go hunting or build a garage just that simple - you just do it without having to get licenses and permits and ASK 10 people and then wait, and then hope they all like you and you filled out your paperwork correctly. Yes it sucks that it's the way it is. [mommyboo]
Mommyboo, There's no "think" about it. Unlike the Kool-aid drinker Annipa & her ilk who want you to "think" OBummer might not be anti-gun, the FACT is, he has a clear RECORD of being anti-gun. Also, I completely understand your wish that we could return to a simpler time, a pre-regulation time. I REMEMBER those times, myself, & it WAS better. Our forefathers & foremothers fought a WAR to get us out from under a reign of onerous taxes & government control that was FAR less oppressive than this current state is! It may come to that again, if OBummer gets his way about things. Some are =still= trying to deny what a scoundrel that man is, even though now the media are starting to ADMIT what we've been saying all along is true, that he's Socialist, that he came to politics though the radical Chicago thug system, that he IS an anti-gun person, & on & on. Yes, that DOES suck. But it won't make me or you or others who love this country stop fighting to get America back on course! Now. ANOTHER topic. The "right to bare arms." PEOPLE!!!!! ANYONE can wear sleeveless shirts, but SEVERAL chums here seem confused, so Miss Grammar Grundy's here to FIX it. We have the right to wear bear coats, bears have the right to bear arms, & WE have the right to BEAR ARMS!!! To underline this: It's the right to BEAR ARMS, not "BARE" arms! LOL! Are we all clear here, class? May I GO now? :::wink::: Maggiepie [Maggiepie]

of course its illegal if you do not have the papers to make it legal... people buy guns for self defense... If i will decide to have one, that would be my primary reason why ill buy it... see yah! [howardskip]

If you mean why are Americans buying weapons, it's due to our president-elect. His voting record clearly shows how much he disagrees with the 2nd amendment to our constitution and there is always a possibility that he's going to try to revoke that amendment. I am a law enforcement officer. I carry a gun for a living. Even I've noticed around here where I live that many people are either buying guns or are stockpiling ammo for the upcoming swearing in of 0bamanation. Personally I don't think he'll outright ban guns, but he can raise the taxes on them upwards of 600% making them too expensive to own or maintain, thus eliminating guns and the 2nd amendment without *technically* revoking the amendment. Problem there in lies in the fact that bad guys rarely if ever purchase guns or ammo legally, so all that idea will do is harm innocent people like me who carry guns for a living or other law-abiding citizens who legally purchased their guns for home protection. They won't be able to afford to arm themselves, making themselves open for attack by bad people who know that we can't afford to buy bullets for our guns. [MysticTomatoes]

It is said that gun sales have soared across the country since Obama's election. I believe people are just afraid of losing their Second Amendment rights. It was stated on his web site that Obama wanted to ban assualt rifles, which are the type of firearms that have been flying off the shelves the most. Handguns have also been selling like crazy, due to the plan to tighten gun ownership. As far as the increase in sales of ammo, there is a fear of a possible tax increase on this. I am all for the Second Amendment and don't plan on ever giving up any of my firearms! [jilipino08]

Or will it be easier for the government to arrest those who are not conforming? Before Hussein got knocked out of power you weren't allowed guns. When he knew we were coming he handed out guns to everyone If I remember right. [lotterylover]

my husband has guns lots of it because he had a security agency before. some is for protectionhappy and collection. [bombshell]

People are buying guns for different reasons. I bought a gun the other day because I turned 18 and wanted one. I know several people who already have guns and are buying ammunition. The reasons for this are many. One reason I've observed is the simple desire to exercise the rights our founding fathers gave us. I don't believe any president should be able to waltz in and take away a right that has been with our country since its beginning. Many people do fear that Obama will atttempt to take a position of dictator so people buy guns to be able to participate in the "revolution". Honestly I think this is foolish, if there is a revolution then those participating in it will be considerd criminals. This then means that those participating in it would have access to guns. People may also be innocently stocking up on guns and ammunition because they regularly go hunting or shooting so they want to buy the equipment before it is heavily taxed. This is just a precaution I'm sure. I don't think a tax that is unreasonabgle will last long. Hopefully we'll all get to relive the boston tea party.....with guns....but unlikely. [kevin90az]

Many people say that president Bush may start martial law to keep his presidency and war in Iraq. People also say that in case of big crisis we can have more violence. In addition to, we don't know what regulation we will have with new president. In difficult time like now, people are looking for an extra protection. [polachicago]
