Palin Book Deal Could Rake In $7 Million

It's been reported that GOP V.P. candidate Sarah Palin is close to signing a book deal that could be worth $7 million. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27755392/ My question is, are there enough people who would buy the book to make it worth that size advance? Is there anyone here who would buy it in hardcover, will you wait until it comes out in paperback or will you borrow it from a friend - or skip is altogether? Annie

Well, I wouldn't mind reading her story, but depending on how bad I want to read it, that depends.I know she hasn't gone away yet to say she is off the meter, so to be honest, i cannot fathom how she could get such a deal. unless she owes someone. I am not mad at someone for raking in their cheddar(money)but 7 million? shoot.. I wouldn't buy it per se, but I would read it or borrow it from the library. If I get that Kindle I want, I may just put it there. [Savvynlady]

I actually heard about this on Craig Ferguson(Late night talk show), and he made a crack about it & I think it's a valid point. What exactly is she going to write about? Maybe if she had something interesting to write about I might consider it.. but I really don't see what her book will be about? Is she going to teach us all to hunt? confused She's fairly popular though and people don't seem to buy books on how informative they are but the appeal they hold.. which is actually quite sad. surrender So in othewords it is possible but if her appeal has already worn off I don't really see it coming even close to happening. w00t [LouieWpHs04]
I can't see what it will be about either. Probably just bashing the media and people who don't live in the "real" America? Annie [anniepa]

Does that mean she doesn't qualify for Joe Six Pack anymore? lol I'm not really interested in reading her book but, maybe the Congress could use it as a filibuster next time they need one just kidding lol. This subject is way too funny and I better stop before I get in trouble here... [ZephyrSun]
I guess maybe she and Joe the Plumber could go on a book tour together and sign autographs and give interviews. Annie [anniepa]

I thought I heard on one of the news channels that as long as Palin was Gov. Of Alaska she couldn't do any book deals or such. Alaska has a law about their Gov. only serving their state. I could be wrong. I wouldn't waste my money buying a book about Palin but then again I wouldn't waste my money on Bush or Obama either. I would however go to my local library to checkout the book to read. [KissThis]

I think it's great Sarah Palin is getting this book deal, and yes, I think it will be widely read enough to justify the advance. She certainly deserves the celebrity status for all her trouble. She didn't vaunt herself into the spotlight to achieve such status either. The media has put there on its own initiative. Kudos to her. [clrumfelt]
Are you saying you think she deserves $7 million for her "trouble"? I'm actually trying to figure out what "trouble" you're referring to. We all should have it so bad...lol! Annie [anniepa]

I suspect that any book Palin *writes* will be preachy and can't possibly be very informative simply because she's already talked about her family and accomplishments thus far, none of which are particularly interesting to any but her most ardent fans. In fact, any book that she would write will be missing important elements such as overcoming adversity and both internal and external struggles. Tales like that attract readers...not stories where everything seemed to come so easily. [spalladino]
You said it! Judging by the way she talks without a script I can imagine the book containing one great big rambling sentence. (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist...lol!) Annie [anniepa]

I say if she can get it, good for her. Of course it's the name "Sarah Palin" that's the key. I imagine it will do quite nicely and the publisher always takes a risk. I don't know that I would give that much of an advance, simply because you don't know how a book will do. And with the twinge of jealousy I'll go on my cynical way with my unpublished novel. glarelol [irishidid]

Whether you like her or not she's a star. There are people who love her and will likely buy anything with her name on it. The content of a book isn't nearly as important as the person who writes it these days and I'm sure the publisher will make plenty of money off the book sales. For your final question, no, I never buy Political Books and this one would be no exception. I wouldn't be surprised if a relative bought it for me for Christmas though. [Taskr36]
Maybe they would if everyone wasn't so broke...lol! Annie [anniepa]

I will not buy it in hardcover. I will not buy it in paperback. I will not borrow it from a friend. (Actually, I don't think I know anyone who would buy it to borrow it from.) I do not like Sarah Palin. After reading this again before posting, I think I kind of sound like Dr. Seuss. I guess I should add "Sam I am" after the line about Palin. lol [lilybug]
I just don't get what the big deal with her is. She was a candidate for VP of the US and did not get the job. End of story. rolleyes [lilybug]

Well Obama has put out several books. Why not her too? She is such a doll. But to tell you the truth I will probly get it from the library. Gotta cut expenses you know. [lilwonders456]
That's because nobody knew who he was when he wrote his books. He didn't have the name recognition and popularity that Sarah Palin does. If he were to sign a book deal now, they'd be shoveling money on top of him. [Taskr36]

I will happily buy it, and I think that there are at least 58 million people who are more interested in her than Obama. She is going to need some positive exposure for when she runs at the top of the ticket in 2012, because the state media (aka CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN) will pass along more lies about her, while propping up Obama, just like they did this year [weyandtgm]
Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot. You don't think there will be 58 million people who will buy her book, do you? I didn't intend to turn this into a political discussion but since you brought it up close to 70% of those polled didn't think she was qualified to be V.P. so I really can't see her running successfully at the top of the ticket. Anyway, I can honestly say my opinion of her wasn't based on anything the media said but from what I saw and learned for myself. I doubt that reading her book would change my mind. Annie [anniepa]

I'll just skip it. I can't believe any company would pay that much for any book. [Bd200789]
Me too and me too...lol! Annie [anniepa]

There must be some people who would love to buy her book. She does has her fans too you know... anyway, if someone give me her book for free, or a i can borrow it for free, I would like to read it. just to gain knowledge and some point of view [julise]
Yes, she sure does have her fans and some of them are really super-duper-protective of her! Maybe if I read her book I could figure out what it is they see in her? Annie [anniepa]

Egads, she's never going to go away, is she? I believe that she will get &7 million for a book because people out there have some sort of fascination with her. I would not in a million years buy a book about her nor would I check it out at the library. I'm an avid reader but I like to read up on more interesting subject matter. I much prefer reading about President-elect Obama or VP-elect Biden, both of whom I have a great amount of respect for. She'll get the book deal, people will buy it, & she'll make loads of money. I'm not happy about it but I know it will happen. [collieluv28]
I'm soooo afraid you're right that she'll never go away! I have a "fascination" abut her myself - I'm fascinated she's so popular and that anyone would be willing to shell out that kind of money for a book by her. After she writes it at least she'll maybe be able to answer the question about what she reads if she's asked again...lol! Annie [anniepa]

I want to know what kind of book it is. If it is about Alaska, I loved the state when we were in it for a few days, and the scenery is so beautiful, and I would buy it. And if it is anything about the history of that state, and what it offers, I would also buy it. I would even buy it is it was an autobiography or politics because it would have pictures of that state. And in hardcover as well, the paperbook has too small a print for me. [suspenseful]

I would definitely be in line to buy a hardcover copy. I would be most interested in reading a book from Sarah Palin. This is great! Thanks for posting this here. [SuzyQ12]

You gotta love America where any nobody can rise from obscuredom to fame without really trying. Anna Nicole Smith and Paris Hilton never did anything of note yet they are celebrities. What is it with this phenomena. Sports stars whose only real talent is throwing a ball around in a kids game get millions in salaries and millions in endorsements as we hang on their every word. Sarah Palin, yes she is now famous in the same way and is worth millions while 19 million Americans do not have health coverage. [mariposaman]

Well I wouldn't buy Palin's book! She doesn't come out as a smart person to me. I think they'll play up her hockey mom story and all the family drama instead of why she is a good candidate for the 2012 elections. It will really have to depend on the book will be about, but considering how popular Governor Palin is, I think the 7M is reasonable. [mimico]

I'm not a reader so I would not buy it at all. I cannot see making someone rich off of a book anyway, really, unless they are a very good author or writer, themselves. [stephcjh]
That's the part that gets me - as far as I know there's never been any evidence she can write at all. I mean, there are certainly thousands of talented writers who have never and will never get their break; it doesn't seem fair. Annie [anniepa]

Someone in my family will probable buy it. I usually buy mysteries. [bestboy19]

Evidently some publisher thinks it will sell. I might buy the book in hardback, but I'd wait until it's on the discount table. This has nothing to do with my feelings about her, it's that I only buy discount books. [6precious102]
At the price of new hardcover books I don't blame you! Annie [anniepa]
