Because personally I am sick of all the crap. It's all a bunch of word-twisting juvenile game-playing anymore. I'm sick of both parties slinging mud and throwing accusations; I thought it was about better things, like coming up with realistic ways to solve problems and unite the people of our country, not divide them into two sides basically waging a war on each other. Is anyone else sick of this?
[question posted by myklj999]responses and comments:
Keep an eye on the actual candidates themselves and not so much on their "possy." It's the followers and other Party members that tend to act like a bunch of fools. [prinzess1515]
No, just sick of all the B.S like an awful lot of us have become. I wish the sheeple would realize there's no real difference between the Reporklicans and Spendocrats. All they care about is lining their own pockets, and getting more of their own elected so they can get more bribes, er "campaign contributions." [avranesjr]
I'd say you are just sick of it. Why don't you vote and write in Daffy Duck? LOL [ZephyrSun]
Sometimes I think George Carlin had it right. http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/georgecarlin/youtube/carlin-voting.htm [irishidid]
That is a funny bit but I disagree that not voting is a good choice. It's still a decision. "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice." RUSH from "Fly by Night" [morethanamolehill]
you're probably just sick of it. so am i. wink i'm not american but i share your thoughts on elections. politics sure is one helluva topic to begin with, but hey, were on the same ground anyway. here in the philippines, election crap is pretty much the same. funny thing here is, the next presidential election here is on 2010. but politicians, specially presidential aspirants are already trying to "get in" with the crowd. they're starting to make the people feel their prescence. they insist their actions have nothing to do with the upcoming elections, but hey, we ain't stupid. their actions are too obvious, specially one of the candidates who has a first name, which when translated to english means "hero". as election time draws nearer, they make you feel you're special, and they throw a shitload of mud at their opponents to crack their reputations. just pretty much like whats going on in your country. the never ending election horseshit. angry [repzkoopz]
I am very sick of it! I just wish that each Party would only talk about theirselves. Or about what they will do! That is all I really want to hear. I am so tired of the Mud-Slinging Crap already. If we would hear what they are going to do. It would make it so much easier for everyone to decide. But NOOOOOoooooo. we dont just get that at all! [LouiseKnittel]
You you commie you, how could you ever say something like that? Shiiiit, ive been sick of this crap since it first started last year. I hate how this crap is. [darkjedi]
I also do not vote when there is an election in our country. I believe that those candidates are up to no good because they do not have the people in their platform. If ever there are candidates that will really give this country what it deserved, then I will vote. [everlasting]
I don't think its Un-American, but I am of the belief that if you don't vote, you can't complain when stuff happens. I think that this election has been mild as far as mud slinging. At least from the Democratic side. Obama hasn't said much about McCain. I was mad when he finally broke down and did say stuff back. However, as it was explained to me, if he never said anything about the accusations McCain was making, it would make him appear weak. You are right, it is supposed to be about coming up with realistic ways to solve problems. But in order for it to be that way, and the muckraking to stop, both sides would have to agree on it, and that isn't happening, because Republicans believe Democrats are ruining the country with tax and spend, and Democrats believe Republicans are ruining the country by creating tax breaks for the wealthy. The whole thing is, if you don't speak up when its time to, and sh*t hits the fan afterwards, what can you say? You didn't voice your opinion when it was time, so your opinion doesn't count after the fact. I will be voting this year, because I want change in this mess of a country, and I want my opinion to be heard. [drknlvly6781]
I agree with you 100%. That's exactly what my Dad always said, if you don't vote, you can't complain. When I think of all the people who wanted to vote, but couldn't because they couldn't afford to pay a poll tax, I am grateful to be able to vote. When I think of how little time women have had the right to vote, I count myself lucky. It's a priviledge to be able to vote, but it's more than that. It's a right and a responsibility. How do people think a democracy is run? If citizens don't participate in their own government, then they have nobody but themselves to blame when things go wrong! I think it's just pitiful that so few people vote in such an important election. Shame. [CherylsPearls]
Oh hell YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I've been sick of it for nearly a year. I used to work on Capitol Hill & I have NO use for any of them. One is just as dirty as the other. It's nothing but I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine. With over 500 members of Congress, there is a ton of back scratching. I was there when Nixon was President. He was visiting overseas. On his return, they came to our office, loaded us onto buses & took us to the White House. We were told to scream when his helicopter landed. When they showed it on the news that night, they told how throngs of admirers showed up to welcome him home. In truth, NOBODY there even cared to see him except we were being paid to not work for several hours while he returned home. The public was not even allowed in. I worked for a Senator & composed a lot of his letters...even signing them by machine every night. He never saw one letter that I wrote or signed. They all told what all he was doing for them. A friend of mine stood next to him at parties & gave him the name of every person approaching him & how he knew them...even close personal friends. I heard his aids making arrangements on how he would vote on any given bill. It was a negotiation...of we want this bill passed if he votes for your bill. If they didn't like the other aid, that Senator's bill never got voted for. So it's a popularity contest as to who & how to vote. [LadyMarissa]
Hi myklj999, I know the feeling, at the moment your country is a grip of voting fever and all that mud slinging is going on, in my country the polictains are still making a mess of this country and its all boring, I also hanen't vote for a long time as they are all the same just empty promises and the country is worst the ever. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
You can be sick of 'low' politics, but I don't see what's accomplished by throwing away one of the most important powers you have as a citizen. Forget the pundits, and especially don't even bother watching election coverage on TV (except maybe C-SPAN, they know how to show you things without trying to tell you what to think about them). Look at the issues, look at the temperament of the candidates themselves, and make a decision that way. [ClarusVisum]
Absolutely. You can't even cut on the TV without seeing all the crap on. Who even knows who to vote for now. So much cut thought, blood every where, I'm surprised there's still a Congress. [walkthetalk]
Your vote doesn't count and you'd better believe it! The one vote you choose not to cast, the Republican Party can find fifty bone yard occupants that will vote for McCain in your place. You have no right to complain after the next president screws you over! But you do have a right to complain about your next door neighbor who chooses to vote for the wrong guy! So, say No to proposition 132 which is the new law to require chickens to be dressed and seasoned before slaughter! [mrghill]
From the last post mentioning the amount of time since you've last had some, I believe was about eighteen months. Listen man, chickens are abundant and plentiful, you really need to let your addiction to eating live, bald chickens with a light topping of "Seasoning Salt" come to an end.lol Giggitty... [mrghill]
I'm not voting either, what's the point? Who am I going to vote for? Hmmm lets see who is the least slimiest...... It's like comparing dogshi* to catshi* They both stink [heatherfeather80]
Oh hell no. I love this crap. I'm a Political junkie and I love the drama. What can I say? I don't watch Reality TV or soap operas. I I gotta get my intrigue from somewhere. :) [sndcain36]
Your coping out. If you don't like either party, look at a third party. Realistically, a third party has no chance at being elected the next President. However, it will at least allow yourself to feel that you've exercised your right to express your opinion. Many countries do not allow elections to take place or they are so manipulated that the real vote does not exist. We do have some cases of voter fraud in our country but overall it is fairly accurate. Just remember, slinging mud and throwing accusations is as old as time itself when coming to elections. Do some research and go with the candidate that best reflects your interests and what you think is best for the country. [zebra2222]
Wait a minute, I believe that for the first time we have a chance at change in Washington, and I'm not talking about Obama and his constint yelling change and have yet to see him do anything. I'm talking about Palin, she has already showed that she is there in Alaska to serve the people. She is not going there to make buddies and try to look like she fits in, she is after the ones that squander our money on foolish laws that do nothing for us, but grease their own pockets. If you don't vote that does not make things better, you have a voice in this usa and you should use it. Thisis an election and we would like to see them act like grown ups, but the end result is to win the big prize, so you now they are going to sling mud, when I see it I go research what was said and see what I can find on it. I dont' think I have ever sen an election where it does not turn into a war, one side or the other is bound to start it. You have to look at who has the experience and who has done all that they can for their country while they have been in office. hate to say it but I don't see too much that Obama has accomplished in the 3 years that he has been in office. Who you believe and decide to support is your right but please dont sit back and not voice your opinion, really this is the only thing that we have left is to try and choose the best for the next 4 years. Get on the computer and research both candidates,it is what I have done. But I will be there in line to vote on election day, it is my right and i will use it. [bdugas]
research is like - garbage in, garbage out. whatever one wants, you get it in research. it is like seeing what one likes to see and turning away from the reality. americans seem to be too much believing into what media says. no independent opinion on what is good or bad for USA. how can one arrive at a decision obama is bad and palin is good just on what they say to the press and to the electorate. someone makes one single statement on which many starts to believe in. this is what Palin seems to be concenterating now, the sentiment. nobody can give mindboggling results in 3 years. i hope you to agree to that. if a he/she has good ideas that is workable, practical and beneficial to the people of USA, then you go all out and vote to that person. biased behaviour wont do any good. research in cyberspace on these personalities is a sheer waste, you get more trash than something of good value. [tulipstrader]
Whoever said that politics is the last resort of charlatans has said it rightly. They survive only by dividing others. If the world is united, they have no place here. that is their negative thinking. they need a reason to stay in power. everybody is sick of these politicians and their theatrics. You dont become un-american if you do not vote. but voting is your birthright. you have to use it constructively. do not give it away because the other is bad or evil. use it rightly. make yourself heard. [tulipstrader]
the media has vested interest in promoting a particular person. so are the business houses. voters have just one choice. to elect the one which is least dangerous or least corrput. there are no absolute good or absolute evil here. [tulipstrader]
I am sick of it as well, but I feel that if I do not vote for someone, then I am going to regret it later on. To me, I am serving my country when I vote. Everyone in my family owes it to serve our country in some way because it is what we do. If we cannot join the military, then we vote or we doing something that helps our country somehow. Most everyone in my family is a Democrat, so we always vote Democrat at elections. It is up to you, whether or not you want to vote. [rogue13xmen13]
i personally dont vote because i really dont think it matters one way or the other. george dubbya`s appointment sort of proved that. so no.. i dont bother with it. [tessah]
It's all a bunch of word-twisting juvenile game-playing LOL YEP..and thats why I've never been into politics! I can't vote here in the U.S because I'm only a resident and not a citizen but I didnt vote back in Canada either..its all a bunch of childish sandbox b.s and if I wanted to be part of that I'd go to an actually sandbox and bicker with the little kids glare [Ravenladyj]
Well, even me during elections I'm not voting either. I just don't like the idea that they give money to the people just to vote for them. Do they have all the money to buy that vast number of candidates? Well did they get all the funding? Isn't it the resources of the people paid thru taxes in the government? Crap! They're just making fool out of the people. I do not vote not because I'm not patriotic but because I don't want to contribute to those sick politicians. [iceblizzard]
I despise every bit of it, mykl, of course. But - how can you NOT vote, especially this year???????????? For god's sake, you have to get out there and make your vote! If the republicans get back in, there's going to be so much hell to pay, you'll think that all of the crap you're sick of now is nothing but CHILD'S PLAY!!! Come on, mykl!!!! I can't believe you're saying this. You won't vote???? Hey, do what you want, but if you don't vote, then you can never, never b!tch or complain about who's in office. You're a thinking human being. How can you even consider not voting?????? I don't get it. [novataylor]
americans are just so tired of hearing the so called promises that candidates so these days it seems like its more american not to vote.besides if you do vote it seems like it doesnt count anyway and one way or another your going to end up regreting your vote no matter who you vote for.just an opinion. [banddtolbert]
I don't think you're unAmerican - in fact, you're lucky if voting's not compulsory in your country. In Australia it's compulsory, so we get fined if we don't vote. It would be far better if they allowed us to make up our own minds about whether we chose to vote or not - that way, the people who have given it a lot of thought would be doing the voting. When things are compulsory, it makes me want to rebel anyway. Our parliament sessions are on the telly, and it's absolutely disgraceful. If kindergarten kids carried on like that they'd be down to the principal's office for a demerit. Nothing seems to be solved - it's just oneupmanship and abuse most of the time, and people shouting down other people rather than listening. The world's gone mad - and manners have gone out the window! [guybrush]
well at least in australia, there was more than one name on the ballot, lol. [xfahctor]
Have all 75 or so parties got to you that badly?? Have you looked at anyone else besides the 2 big box brands? What about the libertarians? What about the Constitution party? The Green party? Or Ron Paul? Or Ralph Nader? those are 5 other alternatives at the top end. there are a bunch more as well that may be on the ballot in your state. Look in to it, but for the luv o' pete, don't NOT vote. [xfahctor]
Yes I understand why you don't want to vote. At the higher levels, the vast majority of politicians are slimeballs, though at the more local levels, there are a number of dedicated people holding political office who do it to serve their community. It is the national politicians, particularly those who aspire to the highest office, that are a disgrace. This is because all they are interested in is power and will do whatever to achieve it. Yes, I understand why you are fed up with all the attack ads, all the bs which distorts and distracts from the real issues. Look at least at the debates and if both main candidates do not appeal to you, research the other parties and find out what are their policies. Screen out the rubbish and noise, and make the best judgement you can, but do vote. [evanslf]
I'm sick of it in the UK too! I haven't voted for years and if I do vote it'll be for the Green party because at least they want to do something about the most important issues! [aslanlight]
Yes maybe but I believe the UK Green party is genuine. Anyway it's the best one we have. [aslanlight]
Oh I was soooo sick of it months ago. What a bunch B.S. . A buncha rich snobs up there whooping & hollerin for their candidate who they hope will make them richer...thumbdown To make matters worse they play like our votes actually count when it's actually the electoral college that makes the final decision. Those guys are only supposed to CONSIDER our votes & don't necessarily have to vote the way we say.... WTF kinda B.S. is that....confused The real question is who's lining whose pockets the best!angry [uath13]
I hate politics! I hate listening to the promises that never materialize. Like you said it is just a game. I will say though, that a lot of the mud slinging even looking for gasoline powered generators is due to the media. They are the ones that bring up all the "skeletons in the closet" so to speak. Unfortunately I think a lot of people who do vote, just vote their party, and not the candidate. That is so wrong! I would rather not vote than vote just because it is the thing to do, even though I don't like either candidate. I will be glad when this whole disaster is over with! [bmorehouse1]
How does it make you un-American ? Bit dippy that Myk.It makes you tired, bored ,fed up hearing it..quite simple really. Now really you should still be proud of your country,no matter what..really come on,think about it.You never hear me whining.. Mooooooooooo lol [LoudnProud]
yeah. definitely sick of it. [carla_teamrufs]
I feel the same way. You know what are they going to do to help my family's situation my husband has a war related injury and can no longer work he has worked all of his life. We have 4 chidlren my husband has filed for his VA pension but God knows when they will start paying, he qualifies for SSI but they wont start paying until Januarary so what are we suppose to do until then. I've been looking for work but the one thing I have agaisnt me is I have not work in about 10 years because while my husband has been supporting us and fighting for our freedom I've been taking care of our family so I would really like to know what they would say they would do to help us my husband fought for their freedom and were still paying. [christylynn]
Yes, I agree. I am a registered democrate but won't vote this year for the lack of a candidate I can relate to.I think most are just hog washing and telling you what they think you want to hear. [patricia4225]
You have to remember that the candidates are not super human gods. These candidates are human beings who, just like you and me, make mistakes and say things that are just plain dumb. No matter what happens I don't think that we'll ever have a presidential candidate that is perfect. A lot of your issues may stem from the fact that as a nation we get wrapped up in the non important things. We're the first to report when someone does something wrong but you never really hear about all the good that both candidates have done. I don't think you're unamerican but look at it this way. Many people fought for us to have the right to vote and for it to matter. I mean that's why this country started. I may not like either candidate but I thinks it's amazing that someone was selfless enough to think about the generations to come. Even if you don't like what's going on there is a deeper meaning to voting. I'm a biracial female. This will be the first election for me and it's an amazing feeling to know that I can do something that 50 years ago was illegal! [medney1988]
I think people just sick of it. I don't vote because I have no idea who will be the best to be American next president. [ml2blog]
You actually have to accept the challenge suggested by the first part of your topic. You say, quite plainly, I AM NOT VOTING! Hey, that's your decision, so before you even get to ask whether it means one thing or the other, you have to admit that you have already decided to take the easy way out, by refusing to exercise the right to cast your vote. What's the problem? are you just afraid to front up with your personal political opinions? do you really think it's A-OK to put up some flimsy excuse for not voting....so you can come back a bit later to blame everybody else when, to your way of looking at things, the proverbial hits the fan? It couldn't matter less what nationality you belong to, because just about everybody has the same experience of doubting or questioning the political process at some point in our lives. Doesn't make you un-American, doesn't make me un-British, and one thing is for sure, being sick of it or opting out is not a viable solution, because we have a responsibility in the political process. Yes, there are times when we wonder why we bother, times when we despair at the low levels of achievements shown by those we have elected, in good faith, to make big differences in our lives and the way we are governed. The really interesting thing to watch will be how many people agree with your 'just sick of it' outlook, compared to how many challenge you to get more proactive. It will also be instructive to see whether you change your own opinion as a result of the varying angles voiced during the discussions. Rock on! [jahrock]
This is the first time in my 30 years of being a voter that I plan to not cast a ballot. I realise this means I will have no cause to complain if everything gets worse than it already is; that has been my stance on non voters for ages. I am just truly fed up with the whole system, and I haven't seen any candidate that I feel can really make a difference, so I'm willing to let everyone else decide this time around. [myklj999]
I couldn't have said it better myself. I will still vote, but I do truly believe it is the rancor/hatred between the parties that is paralyzing the accomplishing of basically anything at all.. In my more extreme moments I swear there will be civil war in my grand kids future.. or some real enemy will lay siege to us on the sly while we are busy sniping at each other, accounting one another as the real enemy, via all the demonizing of the other which goes on for the sake of votes. [flowerchilde]
myklh999 i am also sickof all the politial crap but if I dont vote my vote may have been the deciding factor so yes I will vote but with a heavy heart. I still like Obama better than the clone of George Wya but who knows what is going to happen, and I want to feel that I might have accomplished something by voting. too many already do not vote.and if enouogh do not vote then we cannot complain as we could have voted and didnt we dont get a voice at all. [Hatley]
Hi myklj, When I was in our COuntry, I only vote for the people whom I believed deserves my vote and I will always never complete the paper! I heard also some of my friends here who will not be voting and even my hubby, he is also tried of all the childish act of both parties!winkwinkwink [checapricorn]
I'm not sick of it, that's sounds sick doesn't it? I guess if you don't want to vote that your choice. I can see how things never change with politicians but if you negate your freedoms they might get taken away. Just go to the polls and people watch, wait your turn and when you pull the curtin for privacy slap a Dead Head sticker on the machine. Have a little fun with it. [gitfiddleplayer]
I'm 18 - 19 in January - and I won't be voting. There's no point, we have a rotating government; all working together and controlling too many robots in our countries for us to make a change. I'm going to make sure they don't affect my life. They won't get anything out of me, or mine (when I have them) and that's all I'm guna concantrate on [louise99]
No that does not mean that you are unamerican. I am not voting either. However, I am not voting because I do not like either candidate. I dont think that either one of them will make a good president. Personally I am really worried about what is going to happen to this country. [my2boys]
I don't think it makes you un-american at all. I actually totally agree with you and made a similar thread a few weeks which surprisingly no one answered haha. I'm sick of it as well. The way I see it is all these politicans promise this and promise that and its all to win the voter over but once they get in the office nothing happens. Our system is stuck in a cycle and nothing will change it until it absolutly has too so what's the point? Even if you do find that person who wants to make changes there are so many processes they have to go through to get it approved and chances are it will get shot down >.< Its for these reasons that I don't even bother getting involved with politics at all. [musiclover505]
I am not an American, but i think that politicians are all crap. Even with they all say good stuff that seem reasonable and may actually be helpful for people, nothing can assure you that they will do it when they become presidents. Beside I dont believe in politicians or any of that crap, just work your butt off and live your life =d [jfilips]
I'm voting for NONE OF THE ABOVE and have already stated that in another discussion can't remember which one now..I'm old.. Anyway i talk alot about this with friends and since Texas is a Republican state no matter what anyone does here it always goes to the Republican's even though i don't like who is in office one bit or who is running now..so why should i stand in along line for nothing? Unless I want SEX SEX SEX..hee hee [Rosekitty]
Gee you got me cracking up here..tears are going down my face so if i mispell sorry..this is way to funny!!! [Rosekitty]
In my opinion, deciding not to vote, because of how the politics are acting against each other, isn't a good reason. Sorry that is just my opinion. But I believe that we all have the right to vote and should vote. You should listen to each candidate and see which one out of the two would act as a better president. Thats the only best way to go about it. [trisha_nava82]
In 1994 I watched as thousands of black South Africans walked for MILES and stand in line for DAYS, many of them carrying their bedridden ancient relatives on litters for the chance to cast their first vote. This was the end of apartheid and it had such a profound and dramatic effect that I registered to vote that very day and I have voted in every major election since. To me, participating in the democratic process is a sacred trust. Men and women have shed their blood to give us that right and I honor their sacrifice by casting my vote. Please don't be discouraged by the drama; be glad that you have the privilege of participating in the world's greatest and most successful democracy. [sndcain36]
It doesn't matter who you will vote for or if you vote or not. It's a system designed to run itself even if we don't do anything. At a younger age, I looked i used to look up to America as the land of the free. Yet, now I see the real picture, financially people are a bit well off there compared to my country. But the point is, no matter who sits in public office, the systems runs on its own. And that goes way down to the last guy in office at the bottom. Along the way a lot of things happens we cannot see. Yet, it is a system that is made for them. Not the people. We can of course try to protest or make complaints, or even revolt. But think of it, does it even really make a dent in the system? It's our word against theirs. And they rule. We just roll with the flow. In my country where majority of the people are poor, It sucks more, because the people are led to believe that the system is right, protests and revolts for decades and nothing has been resolved. I even wonder if all the problems were even fabricated to create chaos so they can then offer their solution. Create a problem and offer your concocted solution fluffed up to make people believe it is for the people. With bested interests of course. And you don't need to have seen that in a movie to get it. It shows. [wolveren]
Your vote, your choice. Some say it's our duty to vote, but you know what, I don't agree with that. It's our choice. Like it or not. Heck... I'm not voting either this year && I'm still the same American I was the day I was born. Doesn't make me any less American because I wont vote. Same goes for you. :) [Foxxee]
Yes mykl, I agree. I don't like either candidate. Very depressing. I will probably vote, but I will most likely just vote for whoever my hubby does. [awonderfullife]
I am here in the UK and yes im sick of all the backbiting that goes on withing our government,as soon as one MP puts a foot wrong their misdoings are splattered all over the daily newspapers, and if you turn on the television to watch them debating in the House of commons well its like the childrens playground. The insults are being passed back and forth and one just slates the other, these are supposedly adults, supposedly running our country, its like knidergarden. Not only do they confine their insults to the MPS them selves their families are dragged into it,it must be unbearable.Im by no means saying that the members of Parliament are saints, they arent, there are a minority thast are corrupt and motivated by greed, but that happens in all walks of life.If they called a general election now ,I would abstain,on the one hand we have Gordon Brown, who seems to be bumbling away,on the other hand we have the smart alec David Cameron, who thinks that his youthfull outlook will change our country for the better, the monster raving loony party are more than likely the safest bet at this moment in time. [Pikelet]
