Beware Rachael Rays A Terrorist

This is true - Dunkin Donuts has pulled an ad featuring Rachael Ray because the scarf she was wearing resembled what Arafat used to wear on his head so they didn't wish to be accused of supporting terrorism! Here's the link: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2861718 Here's an excerpt from the article: "Rachael Ray ad pulled as pundit sees terror link Malkin claimed scarf similar to those worn by murderous Islamic extremists." Dunkin' Donuts pulled a television spot featuring talk show host and Food Network personality Rachael Ray this weekend after a Fox news commentator associated it with terrorists. In the ad, Ray is wearing a scarf that Michelle Malkin said in her nationally syndicated column resembled a kiffiyeh, Middle Eastern garb that is "popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos." Dunkin's Senior Vice President for Communications Margie Myers issued a statement saying the scarf "was selected by a stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. (End of excerpt) Is this one of the most ridiculous things you've ever heard of, or what? I've heard Michelle Malkin had previously urged a boycott of Starbucks because of their supposed lenient illegal immigration policies and now this? I wonder where she gets HER coffee now? Annie

[question posted by anniepa]responses and comments:

Thats silly she didn't even pick the scarf out herself! I love Rachael Ray ! [liperoterachel]

I really don't like Rachel Ray, but I think them pulling an ad simply because her scarf, which is a fashion statement here in America looks like something a terrorist would wear is ludacris. A lot of people wear those here. How do we know those aren't something they stole from us? It doesn't make any sense to me. [highflyingxangel]

Annie, you are really not going to help spread this kind of BS are are YOU? I do not believe it. What the fuc*k do you think is going to take to turn this sh*it around? ?We need your help, no keep spreading asinine propaganda. What side are you on? [Angelwhispers]
LMAO so sorry, did not mean to come off so strong Annie.. I know your on the good side, that totally bit my butt tho, not you! The whole deal. [Angelwhispers]

This is beyond ridiculous. I feel I almost know Rachel Ray... her parents lived in the city next to mine, she grew up there. She's a wholesome as Apple Pie. I lived in Hudson Falls and she and her parents lived in Glens Falls, then she moved to Lake George. [OreoCookie3]
You lived in Hudson Falls? Ever have the honor of sitting in a bar with her dad drunk yelling at the tv "thats my daughter" and then pulling out pictures of her for proof? My ex has. [razcal2267]

Dang, I really liked Rachel Ray... it's too bad she's a terrorist. [morethanamolehill]

You know I don't believe that now a days you can wear, say or do anything that there isn't some nut case that wants to turn it all around to what they think in their twisted minds to be, to pull a ad because of a scarf someone is wearing is what I think as just a way to get out of having her to the ad. I also like Rachel and think she has worked hard to get where she is, wonder if Oprah had anything to do with it, apparently she is over the running of Rachel's show and they have had words, and she said she can get everything Rachel does pulled and especially her new show, I think she jealous of Rachel or anyone that does not do just what she wants,I stand behind Rachel and maybe we should let Dunkin Donuts know that we are behind her and won't buy their donuts anymore, [bdugas]
Great1 i am great to hear that why can't we it is good why not come to join me ,haha it's great [iceman2008]

I saw a picture of her in the scarf in the link you posted. It is a hideous scarf, but I would have never associated it with terrorism. That is just silly. No Dunkin Donuts, no Starbucks, she must get hers at the McD's drive thru then. [lilybug]

Wow, they will be hearing about that for a long time. I hope that it doesn't ruin her career over this. [Thoroughrob]

The scarf doesn't really look like Arafat's thing to me. Why not just have her wear something else? The whole things seems silly to me. "I wonder where she gets HER coffee now?" Well I don't go to Starbucks OR Dunkin Donuts for my coffee, I MAKE IT MYSELF. In this crazy economy more people should just make their own coffee instead of paying ridiculous prices for it. Home brewed tastes better anyway. [MSV1313]

Who knows what to think or believe anymore these days. I'm not sure if this is true or not or where Rachel gets her coffee now either. I think they are just trying to put her in the spot light myself and bring out some dirt on her. I think they do this to alot of talk show hosts and celebrities. [stephcjh]

Yes hearing that the commercial was pulled because Rachael Ray could be seen as a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I am sorry but anyone who actually believes anything like this just needs their head examined. Annoying to some yes but come on now just because she wears a scarf that I have seen many wear ones just like it. [razcal2267]

Wow...this really is rediculus. you know making a statement like that is tantamount to slander. i hope that this reporter shapes up her act because right now shes lost my respect. Lets hope that Mrs. Ray doesnt wear anything else that links her to terrorism. common people. wearing a certain type of garment doesnt link you to people like that. she was probably wearing it because it looked good on her. its a scarf, a fasion accessory. people like this reporter need to get a life and pull thier head out of thier butt. [Palmerhusky]

I think thats utterly rediculious. She didn't even pick out the scraf herself & even if she did I am sure she wouldn't have associated it with terriorists. Thats just the stupist thing I've ever heard & I thought that I had heard it all LOL. [photographygirl73]
I laughed when I saw this, in fact I loved the scarf, but now adays we have to be so politically correct and we have to be so mindful of other religions that it doesn't surprise me. Just because she wore it does NOT mean that she is a terrorist, I was laughing out loud as well with it too. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Now stuff that you wear determines if you are a terrorist. That is rediculous. Do people really pass judgment by what we wear now? I mean honestly. [mrsfrodotata]

Personally I saw the photo, and I saw the scarf, I don't think that there is any way that we can be totally up on every culture and garment that everyone wears. I thought she looked really nice, and I thought the scarf accented her skin and clothing outfit, but now that she's labeled some will never let her live it down. Some just have nothing better to do. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

You know political pundits, they'll say anything inflammatory and stupid to stay in the limelight. Malkin is a partisan hack - just like Coulter and her bosom buddies Hannity and O'Reilly. Just because she's smaller doesn't mean she can't be just as full of crap as they are. I think it's dumber on the part of Dunkin Donuts to actually give this woman's opinion any consideration. A pundit will act like a pundit, it's up to us to ignore them. As for the Starbucks boycott, I don't know if Malkin is the one who started it up. I know it's on a list of corporations to be boycotted because of it's ties to the National Council of La Raza. Since she is undoubtedly against illegal immigrants I'm sure she's joined the "effort". There's so many companies on that list, though, I sincerely doubt someone attempting to boycott them would be able to buy anything ANYWHERE. [Latrivia]

I am so sick of hearing what you wear is what you are. Geez what is this world coming to? You wear a scarf that symbolizes fashion you are a terrorist, you wear red you are a blod or norteno you wear blue you are a crypt or sureno, you wear Nike shoes or converse you are gang it is soooo stupid, gee I may get shot for wearing a red shirt when I live on the west coast...totally stupid !!!!! [jczvrse]
As inane as it sounds it may come to the point where people will be shot or harmed in some other way because of something they're wearing or how they have their hair cut or styled. How crazy can it get? Annie [anniepa]

That is so dumb. I thought so when I heard it. Dunkin Donuts is spineless -- those people are in the minority in this country thank gawd. I'm more likely to not go there because they yanked the commercial. Since when do terrorists choose paisley for their fashion statements? HAHA, it would have been merely funny if they hadn't actually yanked the ad. [MoonlightSerenade]

Ok this takes things way too far. It is a scarf. Not an OOZIE. And the only reason it's getting attention is because someone is making a mountain out of a molehill. Malkin needs a life! [ersmommy1]

hey annie!! LOL you know it is funny. and that is the very best thing to do when you see or hear stuff like this. laugh at it. i think it is the silliest thing i have heard today and when people start taking action on things that matter like education and not what Racheal Ray is wearing we will all better off!! thanks for the laughs honey [34momma]
well i think it was smart of them. it only takes one person to start mass histeria. over something as silly as a scarf. so i think it was a good idea they did that. [34momma]

Oh come on! It's a flippin' PAISLEY SCARF! How does wearing something as common as a scarf or neck kerchief make one a terrorist sympathizer? And if she has such a problem with scarves why has Malkin not directed her bizarre rage towards the stylist that put the outfit together? Rachel Ray just showed up and let them style her, it wasn't even her choice. I agree with boycotting Michelle Malkin, maybe she's the real terrorist trying to misdirect our suspicions! [draconess]
Good point, Malkin just might be the real terrorist. I find actions like hers pretty scary, that's for sure. Annie [anniepa]

Argh... *shakes head* Well Annie, I guess that's two things we've agreed on so far. I can't believe this crap is really happening. It's all borne of ignorance. It's like when people said the Star Wars Episode II was a racist movie because all the clones were Hispanic. The morons complaining didn't even realize that the clones were played by a man from New Zealand. He wasn't even minutely Hispanic. [Taskr36]
OMG, TWO THINGS??? We're going to have a snowstorm in May! Seriously, see I'm not all bad, am I...lol? This is pathetic, isn't it? Believe it or not I haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies but I think I remember reading something about the complaints you mentioned. You said it - those people are morons. That's one thing there's no shortage of, is there? Annie [anniepa]

That really is ludicrous. I don't see them AS much, but for awhile in my neck of the woods almost everyone was wearing those type of scarfs as it was considered a "fashion" trend and those that were wearing them were of all kinds of ethnic groups..so did that mean they were all lurking terrorists? Nope don't think soninja [pyewacket]

Rachael Ray is a North Country kid who went back to her high school to tell kids they can do anything. Why would any born and raised American woman (in a non-terrorist area of the US) support terriorists? We wouldn't. We would have way too much to loose! All the freedoms our foremothers fought for. We have soldiers who wear head gear like the people in the Middle East because it's a desert. If you don't, your head will burn off or your helmet will burn to your head. Most people who pose for pictures in commercials wear whatever is selected for them. Anyone who thinks she's a terrorist should have their head examined! This is as bad as the Communist scares way back when anything you did or said could be considered communist. [writersedge]

I love Dunkin Donuts, and I love Rachel. This is so sad. Women have worn scarves for decades. I am sure it was only a fashion statement and not a political one. Its awful how much politics and social behavior have crossed in the last few years. I have teenagers and some days they want to shave their heads then they want to grow it back and spike it or color it interestingly. Why does every fashion statement or statement of individuality need to be considered a political statement. I think it's time for the world of show business and news to get a little more realistic. [kbkbooks]

I believe the scarf had a paisley design on it and not the kiffiyeh design on it. [gberlin]

I don't know about you, anniepa, but I get the feeling that the world is spinning out of control and we will all eventually be swept up in the madness. Of course Rachael Ray isn't a terrorist-and anyone with half a brain would realize how ridiculous this whole brouhaha is. Our society has been reduced to people constantly levying outrageous charges against one another with no grounds to speak of. These people need to mind their own business and GET A LIFE1 [worldwise1]

I did not think anything of it. I doubt that Rachel Ray knew what the scarf represented and since it was chosen by the advertising agency and they had no knowledge of it, it should not have been anything said about it. Now if someone had taken Rachel aside and told her that "scarf looks similar to what the terrorists wear," or if the advertising agency had checked, there would have been no problem. It is a case of someone keeping quiet when they should have had something ahead of time. Anyway tell Rachel Ray, that there is Tim Hortons. They make the best doughnuts and the best coffee. [suspenseful]
She probably was just handed the scarf at the shoot and put it on. This is really one of the silliest things I've ever heard of. The fact that Dunkin Donuts took this nutty reporter seriously is what amazes me. Annie [anniepa]

I guess I will have to say that I understand both sides. While I believe that they have surely over-reacted, I understand that it would not be good for business to offend anyone. I say, let her do it again with a different outfit. Hopefully, no one will see anything offensive about it. I don't know. [Rozie37]

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. What if she wears a hat on tv? She must be a terrorist because some Muslim women cover their hair? I bet terrorists drink water. If I drink water does that make me a terrorist? People are nuts [onesiobhan]

lolit was ridiculous indeed and a very unreasonable at that..actually im not familiar with michelle malkin or even read her columns(but seen rachel ray on cable tv..im asian)...i guess she just being paranoid or something on terrorists thing (but who will not? after 9/11)...sad [vanities]

They should have pulled the ad after they realized that Rachel Ray is completely annoying. But for a scarf?? Seriously...Rachel Ray a terrorist, this is hilarious. Could there be anything more stupid in this world that this....other than Paris Hilton? [skinnychick]
It puts a whole new twist on the stupidity of terrorism... [skinnychick]

How silly. I can't stand this sort of crap. To take something as innocuous away as a scarf is mental. I bet you nobody complained. How ridiculous. [bonbon664]

This has to be one of the single most stupid things i have heard of in awhile! Only someone with a problem would have even noticed the scarf enough to compare it to anything. Ms. Malkin may need a psych. evaluation before she lapses into a full blown psychiatric episode. As far as coffee goes if she is so out of it that she sees a terrorist behind every neck scarf she really does not need caffeine. [cjgrooms]

Nothing that anyone does anymore surprises me at all. It's a piece of fabric. It's not a terrorism symbol or a marketing ploy by DD to say that they are terrorists. People are just insane now a days. [MooPile]
