Mickey Kaus has a humorous interpretation of why Kerry might not accept the nomination until after the convention. Basically, the idea is that the more exposure Kerry gets, the more people realize he's a dullard, so making the convention into a non-event will minimize his exposure to the public. Also:
But there's more to the complex plan than just keeping Kerry off the air. By delaying acceptance of the nomination, Kerry can encourage speculation that he might just turn it down! Why, he may not be the nominee at all! This will result in wild journalistic scenarios about possible "Torricelli options," distracting public attention from Kerry's spirit-sapping persona much as chaff dropped from an airplane causes anti-aircraft missiles to veer off-target.I blurt-laughed at "spirit sapping persona," an incredibly accurate description IMO. That's a hell of a choice we'll be facing in November, a dullard versus an incompetent.
Posted by: TangoMan on May 26, 2004 10:38 AMUh, arguably, we already HAVE a dullard, since dullard does not mean 'dull,' or lacking in a scintillating personality, but dim-witted or feeble minded.
Kerry as stupid does not seem the winning line of attack for the Bush side, except that Rove's habit is to attack where his own side has a major weakness, so, perhaps, it may yet be raised.
To my knowledge, it has not yet been raised. Kerry as a soporific sleep-inducement? Yes. DULL? Yes. Dullard, no.
Posted by: sofla on May 27, 2004 03:29 PMOh, yeah. Kerry is every bit as intelligent as Algore. In fact, I can't think of a single elected Democrat who is not intellectually superior. Well, maybe Zell Miller, who used to be but now is not. Probably just changing your registration to Democrat would increase your IQ by 20-30 points, while getting elected as a Democrat would guarantee membership in MENSA. Wonder what Howard Gardner would think of this theory?
