Steve beat me to it, but I want to add another perspective to Dr. Dean's monetary troubles.
For months and months we've been hearing about Dean's Web-based Monetary Donations programs. We were told that his WMD capability was extremely advanced, and was both an imminent threat to his neighboring Democrat candidates and a gathering threat to Republicans in the near future.
After the battles in Iowa and New Hampshire, we discover that Dean's WMD programs isn't nearly as spectacular as we've been led to believe.
It's enough to make one wonder whether Dean actually had any WMDs in the first place. Maybe it was part of a strategy to frighten his opponents into capitulating, or perhaps his subordinates misled Dr. Dean as to the extent of his WMD capability. Either way, it's a terrible failure of the media's intelligence gathering methods. We need a congressional investigation to get to the bottom of this.

Posted by: Bill Peschel on January 29, 2004 06:30 PMHeh. Well said. Perfect, actually. Subtle, clearly written and direct. Good job.
Posted by: Gabe Posey on January 29, 2004 06:30 PMBrilliant!
But you forgot to mention Joe Trippi, who sold Dean the WMD, taking a 15% commission of all ad sales.
Did people really think Dean's money would automagically put voters in the voting booths?
Money buys exposure, but that's all.
Posted by: Billg on January 29, 2004 07:05 PMNot to laugh, but Dean might be facing the EXACT problem Saddam had with his WMD programme. Top WMD personel in Saddam's regime will give him glowing report about the state of the program, while pocketing the money indended. Dean's former manager managed to pocket 15% of the TV ad proceed (his company produced the ads). At the rate Dean was burning through his money, he might not be getting all that his money's worth.
Posted by: BigFire on January 29, 2004 07:14 PMSo much for Dean's supposed fiscal responsibility.
Posted by: b.d.g. on January 29, 2004 08:03 PMGood job Dave and a link from InstaPundit as well!
Posted by: Steve on January 29, 2004 09:07 PMYeah, that whole Dem primary is beginning to look like a quagmire; it only goes to show what happens when Dems, acting on false premises, rush to judgement and unilaterally try to nominate a candidate for President without a legitimate coalition.
Posted by: Tim on January 29, 2004 09:59 PMTRIPPI LIED! DEAN'S CAMPAIGN DIED!
We should withdraw our votes immediately and turn New Hampshire over to the UN.
Posted by: Mike on January 30, 2004 03:45 AMDon't be naive. Dean has a massive, nationwide campaign with thousands of orange-hatted volunteers. Those things could be buried anywhere. Hell, he could have given them to Clark just before the caucus. The point is: we don't know.
But regardless, it can not be denied that the Democratic Party - and the world - is safer now because of what our brave men and women in farmhouses and libraries all across that great state of Iowa have done.
Mission accomplished. Bring 'em on.
