Its official, it is rotten.
Julain Sanchez says that the notion that this is the move the White House does not want you to see, should be "this is the movie the Whites wants you to see." It is apparently a laugh fest and not likely to arouse fears of global climate change. In fact, from the sounds of it just the opposite.
My overall conclusion: Good.
Posted by Steve at May 29, 2004 09:52 AMHave you seen it yet? Is it in theaters?
Posted by: Aakash on May 29, 2004 03:09 PMI saw it tonight. Unbelievably bad, and not in a goofy Plan 9 from Outer Space kind of way.
A 100 ft storm surge hitting the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan (which how the hell did a storm surge get into New York harbor anyway but I digress), and it didn't knock any buildings down? I remember sseing film of a levee on the Mississippi giving way, and a 3 ft wall of water blowing away a farmhouse like it was made of soap bubbles. No way would any structure have survived.
The biggest stupidity (and there was a multitude to choose from) had to have been the wolf attack. The cheesy-o-meter pegged on that one.
Posted by: Dave on May 31, 2004 08:02 PMI saw it over the weekend. That bunch of guys that looks for bad science in films won't even know where to start with this turkey. And I'm allowing that you accept the initial premise.
Special effects were fair. The wave was fairly well done (ignoring the physics, as mentioned above), the CG wolves were awful, and somebody really needs to explain Ficke's Law to these people. I'm in no position to evaluate the storms they came up with, and it's probably just as well.
Start from questionable premise, mix with plenty of ignorance about science and an extrememly predictable (but very thin) plot line, throw in some big budget special effects, and voila...
Wait for it to hit the 39 cent rack at Dillons.
