Looks like Ol' Leatherface was indeed influenced by the invasion of Iraq.
Asked about his decision, Gadhafi acknowledged that the Iraq war may have influenced him, but he insisted he wanted to focus on the "positive."He said the world is a changed place in which his country can feel safe without weapons of mass destruction.
I wonder how Gov. Dr. Dean and his team will spin this one.
Posted by Steve at December 22, 2003 10:19 PMHmm...that isn't what he told Mr. Berlusconi (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/09/04/wun04.xml)

Easy -- "Where's Osama????"
Posted by: DaveL on December 23, 2003 06:19 AMBased on reactions I've seen from the left, it is a 2 pronged approach. Dave L has one prong, the other is pointing out that sanctions and negotiations worked in Libya, and what a shame it was that we didn't let them work in Iraq.
Naturally, it has nothing to do with facing a credible threat for non-compliance.
Posted by: Ron on December 23, 2003 06:46 AMIncidentally, is it just me or does that picture look a bit like Roy Orbison, maybe 3-4 months after he passed away?
Posted by: Dave on December 23, 2003 08:17 AMThat's it! I was wondering what/who he looked like.
Posted by: Steve on December 23, 2003 09:28 AMExactly when did this guy stop producing these weapons?
Posted by: Brian on December 23, 2003 08:50 PMHe hasn't yet. He has, however, turned over a lot of information on the extent of his programs, and agreed to snap inspections of the facilities. It's the first step.
"Mohamed ElBaradei, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said he would travel with experts in the coming days to the Libyan capital, where he intends to ask for a full accounting of nuclear research and procurement as a first step in a detailed verification project."
Posted by: DaveL on December 24, 2003 07:20 AMBrian,
About the same time YOU started providing facts like who's been providing more troops to the last several conflicts, and whether our forces have been disproportionately represented in the last several peacekeeping operations.
You know, the questions you SAID you were actually going to try and answer.
You know, just b/c a thread disappears off the main page doesn't mean it's gone "POOF" into the ether.
Cheese it, Dean! I'm waiting to see which direction Brian is headed with his smarmy reply.
1. "Hussein said he'd get rid of his weapons, but rather than give the inspectors time to get this accomplished, warmongers Bush & Blair attacked him any way. Hypocrisy! Hypocrisy!"
2. "North Korea agreed to get rid of their nuclear weapons in the 1990's but they didn't; Bush & Blair are stupid fools for trusting Ghadafy! Idiots! Idiots!"
Liberals live by a one-size-fits-all philosophy, whether we're talking about foreign policy or domestic programs. The idea that there might be substantive differences between the situations with KN, Iraq, and Libya are conveniently ignored.
