I was very touched by his tone tonight. He didn't fire up the crowd...he was presidential...he was humble...he was respectful. He focused on the future, the work ahead and on bringing all of us together again as one people. Talking to a sea of black & white, young & old...it was very inspiring.

I'm Belgian so its 6:42 pm here at the time of writing this, Specially stayed up all night to see who would come out victorious. It was a very inspiring speech indeed. Altough I'm not american I feel like he's really gonna be making a difference. He has this grace I have seldomly seen in any other president in my still short life so far. This was a historic election and I am happy for many at how this turned out, and also proud, and am hoping for the best, but am a bit cynical when it comes to politics and politicians. Also I am still smarting a bit at the nonstop battering over the last eight years by all Liberal news outlets world wide over how terrible conservatives and Pres Bush is, that seemed to me to be the only issue in this world. And I don't buy it all, not by a long shot. But unfortunately most people do. I do sincerely hope (Senator and) President elect Obama is given a fair shake. i agree completly. i dont think ive heard a speech that was that inspiring! he was exactly as id hope a president elect speech would be. hopeful, oh yes. especially the part when he spoke about the woman who voted and is 106 (think thats the right age) years old..and the fact that she was born a generation past slavery, thru all the trials and victories that our nation has endured, finally to vote in a presidential election of such ground breaking stature...then speaking about what his daughters could witness when they were that age! i wasnt sure he was the right man for the job...but i do really think that he will be a president that is far more "for the people" than we've had in a very long time. Barack Obama gave an excellent speech acknowledging his victory. He showed a lot of respect for his adversaries, calling on all of us to work together now that the election was over. John McCain also gave a very gracious conciliatory speech, showing a lot of respect for Obama. He also called upon all of us to work together and move forward. America is capable of doing so. I did not see it. My spouse, who is not happy about the outcome was getting grumpy just listening to the results ( did I mention he is a poor loser?rolleyes) so I turned off the Tv and went into my room and got on the computer. I am sure it will also be on the internet soon. But I would have expected nothing less of him, he has a respectable demeanor, which impressed me from the beginning. [Barbietre]
I agree - the speech was inspiring. It was inclusive and welcoming, and acknowledged so many people who helped him. But there were so many other things that impressed me about the gathering at Grant Park and about the whole night. The fact that on this night, Obama was not sitting in a campaign headquarters watching the results, but at home having dinner with his family. The atmosphere and mood of the crowd waiting for him to appear. The fact that they applauded at the first mention of John McCain rather than booed him. The obvious respect and love between Obama and his wife. Jill Biden and Michelle Obama reaching out to take each others' hands as they stood between their husbands. The tears in so many eyes, including in the eyes of Jesse Jackson. Obama putting the world on notice that we ARE a united country, and if you stand against us, you are standing against a strong, young, united nation that will not back down. Yes, we can. Yes, we are. It was a wonderful speech and I hope that we as a nation will live up to it. I hope that we will become more tolerant of each other and work together. I was really proud of the crowd when they cheered John McCain. I can tell you that here in my house, we were all celebrating (ok, a little crying, too)! I was also impressed by John McCain's speech. I wish he could have ran his campaign the way he spoke tonight. I feel he got some very bad advice and he paid for it with a loss. I didn't even look at Palin. I hope to never see her again! lol It was a wonderful night for America; I'm looking forward to the next four years and feel we can turn this country around and start going in the right direction. I was also very touched and inspired and, call me corny if you will, I feel filled with hope again. Yes we can, indeed, and we ARE the United States not red states and blue states. I didn't make it all the way through, I was so tired. What I did see was great! He is such a powerful speaker and I am so excited about that! It's been 8 years of not watching the president speak because well ya know lol I'm so happy that the person I voted for won for once happylol [ZephyrSun]
It was an incredible speech. There were a couple of moments that really hit me. The beginning when the "new first family" was announced and the Obama family came to the end of the stage made me so proud, and yet reminded me that we still ahve a long way to go in this country. When he was talking about the 106 year old in Georgia moved me to tears. I thought he was very eloquent by not saying this was a huge step for African Americans, but instead focused on how this brought us all together. And at the end when the Obama/Biden families came out and waved, and then near the end left Obama alone on the stage. I am not one to cry easily, but it brought me to tears last night, and then it dawned on me, in one of my goofy moments that I was eating a carton of Rocky Road ice cream. Even though my candidate won, we still have a "rocky road" ahead of us. I think McCains speech was decent too. Regardless of how he allowed his campaign to be run I believe that he had what he believed were America's best interests at heart the whole time. I couldn't help but keep an eye on Palin while he was speaking, and dare I say she really looked as though she were trying to hold it together. I would be surprised if we didn't see her reemerge as a candidate in 2012. Yes we did. Yes we can. Yes we will! [soccermom]
I find Barack Obama inspirational. It was a wonderful speech, and I hope that doubters will hear the message of unity and believe it. I think when he begins tapping his cabinet, it will help put some of these people's fears to rest. I do believe it will be a bipartisan cabinet and when people see that, it will go a long way towards healing and a good fresh start. But I would like to say that Senator McCain was also very classy in his speach last night, he spoke better than he had throughout his whole campagne. I loved his speech. There was no rheoteric, no victory songs, no big hulla bulla... Instead he set the crowd's expectations right on what is coming up ahead. He was able to make the crowd to stop rejoicing and stop thinking which I thought was fantastic after such a major victory. Hey spalladino! I totally agree with you! It was the most amazing acceptance speech that I have ever heard! It was extremely classy to say the very least! You are correct in saying what everyone said that he didn't fire up the crowd, but spoke softly but humbly and respectfully and definitely got his point across! I could have listened to him all night long! I was truly blown away by our new President! I was so proud to be a part of this historic event! His speech was exceptionnal. You are very right to say it was so inspiring. I have only been 6 years in the states but my husband who is born here did say that he's never heard such a great speech. We were so proud. Even my children (11 and 13) stayed to watch him and my daughter had tears in her eyes. It was amazing. It was a great moment and we are so proud to be part of it. [frenchmom]
I'm not a fan of either of the candidates. My thought was 'the lesser of two evils'. I did not hear this speech so I cannot comment on it, but the way I see it neither Obama nor McCain deserved the presidency. [zhuuraan]
